While incarcerated,  Soulja Choc took on writing as a hobby to pass time and as he began to tell his story; growing up in Watts California, raised by a go-getter woman ( his mother), he realized that he truly had "A Story" to tell.   Although his reality is Gutta, Raw, Hardcore and some may even think uncanny, because it's True To Life.  There's a message that he hopes those who are entertained by it, will receive.

When asked what was his motivation on the streets he said, "Money,  I've always loved money. I started hustling when I was in elementary school selling chocolate and over the years hustling became an addiction. They say the love of money is the root of evil, I can't say that because I have a good heart and I'm a giver.  Especially to my family. Momma was a single parent and she made it happen. Me being the person I was destined to be, I  picked up her ways and made it do what it do for my family. Hustler, Gutta,  whatever you wanna call it, that's me. "

Tell me about your reason behind writing, was another question.  Choc says,  "When I first developed the idea to write, it was just to keep my name alive, to tell a story. I wasn't even tripping off money, but as I talked to people in the industry and began to see the reality in my story a few things changed and that was now my new reason to write.

One, I wanted to introduce the Gutta life as a real Watts Soulja by telling my story.

Two, low-key spit knowledge to people like my sons, home boys and who ever else that grabs the book to let them know that although it's all fun when you're shinning, "LIFE" happens when you aren't living legit. I hope that makes sense."

Choc explained how when others found out that he was writing, they reached out to him for help. Being a person who loves helping others, he came up with the idea to start his own publishing company and in honor of his  deceased brother Kenjuan Russell, he named it, "K R Publishing"  This will help make the dreams of those who sign under the publishing company come true.  But he isn't just taking any story, like his, there must be a message to help the urban community.
